They change for different reasons, like to intimidate, fear, stress but yea it can happen often.

Also this little note. Them bastiches can sting the he$% out of you.
It is going on 5 weeks since one got me in the finger. It is still rough where it got me. About a week afterwards a big hole opend up where it got stung.
I didnt see him all blended in, reached down to clean, and BAM!!!! It hurt and bled real good. LOL
 
OUCH:eek: :eek: I've been lucky so far (knocks on wood desk) Mine is full grown 9.5 in. and has been around the block (a few different owners) about 3or 4 yrs old. He changes color all the time like scooty mentioned. What I do to not get stung is put my big blue net in the tank between where he is and where I am...he knows what the net means...and don't like it.
 
I have never known one to sting aggressivly. Mine would eat out of my hand. Just do not bump them and you will be fine. Everyone I have seen does the color change thing when stressed etc.
