A friend gave this small 5 gallon acrilyc tank that had a freshwater frog in it. but the tank hadnt been cleaned in like 6 months. it had very thick black algae in it. i cleaned all the algae off with a soft sponge but now the acrilyc has a foggy look to it. i was wondering if anyone knew how to get rid of that?

What chemical or cleaner did you use? Acrylic is a material that needs some special cleaners. A lot of glass cleaners, such as windex, will typically turn acrylic foggy, and should not be used. Depending on the chemical used, you may not be able to get rid of the "fogginess."

If it is a film, you can try vinegar and a soft cloth. If they're scratches, then you're going to need to buff it with the acrylic buffing compounds. Buffing might be more trouble than it's worth for a small tank...
