Mike I have been cooking some Live rock for about six weeks now doing water changes every two weeks, you gave me some advice on doing this procedure over on reef sanctuary, the detritus/organics shedding has almost stopped, the question I have now is when I test the water I still show nitrate levels at 25 mg/L ppm with a salifert test kit. should I continue doing water changes until I get 0 nitrate? http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3389&highlight=cooking+live+rock

Mark, when you do your water changes, are you removing the detritus that has settled on the bottom of the tub?

Mark,

Are you putting this in a new tank or an established tank?

Welcome over to this side of the boards :)

Mark are you cooking them in the tank or in a rubbermaid somewhere??. Let me know.

Alice It will be going in a new tank that I am currently setting up, I have plenty of time if need be before I place it in the new tank. just a little confused about the nitrate readings that I'm getting after several water changes.

Oh ok no problem them. the nitrates are coming from the shedding detritus and the die off of sponges probibly (from taking them out of the tank). Just keep doing waterchanges until you read low.
