I picked up a colony of Zoanthids this evening. I'm being very particular about dipping ANYTHING that goes into the 200. So, I made up an extra strong solution of Lugols and saltwater, made a SW/Melafix solution and then a buffered freshwater solution, planning on dipping in each, in the order they're mentioned.

As soon as the colony hit the Lugols, something JUMPED off and I mean JUMPED!! Then it was JUMPING all around in the bottom of a 2 gallon bucket, that I was using to treat. I used a turkey baster to catch it and put it in an "always at hand" shot glass, and continued my coral dips.

Grabbing a magnifying glass and looking closely at this jumper, I felt it was an Isopod. Angie hopped online and googled "isopod," coming up with an article from WWM, with an identical picture to what we'd caught. Then I took a couple pictures of the possible villian, though it seems they aren't at all harmful.

As for the above mentioned treatments, these all took place after a very careful inspection, using a lit magnifying glass, revealed NOTHING out of the ordinary. Once the colony hit the Melafix/SW solution, it scared up a fairly good sized Bristle worm that I hadn't seen. They must not like Melafix...lol.

Anyway, I'll post a couple pics and a link. The first pic is our critter, the second pic is the pic from WWM and the link is to the WWM page that the pic was found on.

good dipping!

Where did you get the idea that these guys are not harmful? I am under the impression that they are parasitic and will attach themselves to fish, for one thing. I know that Jesse over here went to great lengths to rid his LR of isopods.
