You may need to QT it and seek some sort of treatment when you can certainly identify the problem.

I guess the question is Bacterial or fungal (or parasite) on how it should be treated. I looked at Lee's forums earlier to see what It could be but no luck.

I don't really have anything that would rip at it. He has been in my tank for about 4 years now, rock work hasn't changed for over two years. He still eats like a pig. He is king of the tank. He doesn't bother anybody and nobody bothers him. I may have to quarantine, if I can catch him. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

See how it goes, If it is a wound it may heal up but it looks like something was eating at his flesh, bacterial if i was to guess. If it continues to grow you need to isolate him and treat it, how difficult and stressful that is i know but what other choice do you have?

I did check with Bob Fenner on wetwebmedia and he thought it looked like an injury and to keep an eye on him. Now, 7 days later, the injury is shrinking and it is much smaller in size. It had lost the brown scaling in it and it looks much better. Thanks for everyone's advise, I was a little worried about him.
