Hi all,

I have a question I would like opinions on.

First some background. I have a ~ 1year old reef (65 gallon) that has been running on a fuge & skimmer. I have added a 125 reef to the house (yes, happy wife - not). The 125 has good skimming alone - no fuge. Anyway, I have both systems on adjacent walls of the living room & have decided to connect them into a single sump / fuge to simplify water changes, conditions & headaches.

That said, has anyone ever moved fuge sand? The existing fuge is a 20 gal modified to have ~ 5" deep and bout 12" x 12". The remainder of the sump area is for the skimmer, heater, return pump etc. There is much life in it and I want to preserve as much as possible. My plan is to add it to a section of a 56 gallon glass tank that will have a section of low flow that will be similar in area.

Any thoughts?

Best Regards,

Id start with new and seed it with some of the old stuff or just clean the old stuff well and reuse it as dead sand. You may run into sulpher pocket and other toxic stuff if you stir up the old DSB and put it into the new tank
