Anyone know of an easy way to get these to come out of the live rock? THe Allenfamily would greatly appreciate it!

Stressing out the anemone will most likely induce a split. Having said that, there are a few ways to get the anemone out of the tank.

1...powerhead aimed at the anemone. I dont like this one because if the anemone gets really annoyed and lets go of its grip, it can be blown around the tank, and come in contact with the powerhead....getting injured. If there is absolutely no way this can happen in your tank, ( I dont know, I cant see it...), then disregard.

2...Icecubes on the foot of the anemone....usually used when an anemone is on the glass of the tank somewhere. This works if you can get the icecube and your fingers where the anemone is anchored, but is not quick. Hairdryer on the glass beneath the foot is similar...

3...remove the rock from the water and place the part with the anemone over a net or some sort of container. If you can arrange it so the anemone has a little bit of contact with water, (Preferably inside the netted area or container), this is ideal. The concept being that the anemone will move towards the water and into the net/container. Possible issues with this method:

A...Rock needs to be exposed to air for some period of time
B...May not be able to move rock due to size or placement inside tank (Reef structure)
C...Takes time for anemone to "figure out" where the water is and to move towards it

4...the easiest way (for the anemone) is to try and break up the rock. A good clean break will expose the anemone's foot and ideally leave you with a BTA on a small, easily removed rock. Other possiblities are exposing the foot so that you can gently "peel" the foot off the rock using a credit card or your fingernails, (This will most likely cause stress for the anemone and induce a split), or worst case scenario...destroy the rock without freeing the anemone...depends on the rock itself.

Wish I had some better answers for you. Moving an anemone from a rock isnt exactly fun. It requires patience and is very often stressful to the anemone.

Keep us posted.
