Just got a 10"x7.5" neon green goniopora on order, and have heard quite the rummors. Many articles on these say that they are very hard to keep long term, while others say it is very possible. Any information or advice will be appreciated. If it remains healthy for a while, I will try fragging it.

It depends on the species. There's around 25 of them, some difficult to impossible to keep, some easy. I've had one for about 3 years now, and it's apparently one of the easy ones to keep. Unfortunately it's very difficult to tell which species you have without looking at the skeleton, as many of them look nearly identical. I have heard that the ones that grow in spherical shapes could be the difficult ones to keep. Mine grows in an oblong shape on the sand bed. My red coris wrasse is constantly flipping it over looking for food. I can flip it back, but within minutes the wrasse flips it over again. This doesn't seem to bother the coral, nor do my percula clowns bother it. They occasionally swim in its tentacles, but prefer a toadstool coral for their home and always sleep in that.

That's a very handy resource. Thank you much. Unfortunately, it tells me just about the same thing i've heard. It's either going to work or it isn't. I'm not sure of the exact species, so won't know much til I get it. I will continue to research and hope for the best.

(TWallace) thanks for the link, I took in an ailing flo. green Goniopora and have been able to bring alot of it back to better health so maybe with this resource at hand it might make a full recovery. Good luck with your new Goniopora (Faciosity)

Thanks, Todd

I don't know why goniopora.org is no longer running, but it's been gone for months. It was a fantastic resource for this genus of coral.

They forgot to renew the domain name because they did not update their email address. Before the owner knew it it was up for auction at one of godaddy's sites and they lost it. They are currently trying to get it back but the new owner is trying to charge both arms and legs for it.

At least that is the rumor I have heard.

That's actually been going on a lot lately.
http://karensroseanemones.net/ just had to change from com to net, for the same reason.
