Glue or not to glue?

Hello,

I am new to the reef tank and I am wondering about glueing down frags.

Now all my frags are attached to a small rock or shell.

What I need to know is, do I just place the mounted frags on to mt live rock? Or do I glue the mounts to the rock so they don't keep getting knocked over?

thats one way. Another way is to remove the rock you want to put frags on and drill some holes in it. Then just slip the frag in. Epoxy works too.

If you want to keep them from falling off, you can epoxy the mounts onto the live rock.

Just use superglue gel and glue either the frags directly to your live rock or take your frags that are already mounted to small rocks and glue them to the larger live rock pieces. Don't use epoxy, It is hard to use, never looks natural as it stays white forever. Try glueing a 1 inch frag, it looks ridiculas with a chewing gum ball on the end of it. With superglue you can use a tiny bit and it sets in seconds. Its the only way to go!

I use superglue, epoxy or (for some sps's) just putting the coral in a hole in the rock. It depends on what works in the particular situation. For example, I have a rock of zoos that after a few weeks grew enough to cover the epoxy. The trick to the epoxy is to use just enough to get the job done, and depending on how it is placed, you will not even notice. I try to use epoxy mostly in places where there is a dip and i can hide the epoxy in the recesses of the rocks and just push the rock with the frags on the epoxy.

BUT, all in all, i use whatever will hold the best and still look natural.

You can also drill a hole Ø5/8" and get some acrylic rod and cut that to short lengths glue the frags to the acrylic rod then place the rod in the rock and if it won't work there just pull the rod and frag out and move it

hmm good idea with the acrylic, coraline would cover that quick and i guess you could always scuff the top part of the rod to let coraline attach quicker.

I agree with Paul, they do look much nicer. Also the superglue will cover the wound and help with preventing infections.
