I went to the frag swap and got a bunch of zoas and did a dip and acclimated them over an hour and put them in the tank. I know I should QT them but they were all from 2 very reliable reefers I have bought from several times. Well today the smaller frags are gone off there plugs and I can't find them. So I'm going to put together a 20 gal grow out tank to grow them some and make sure they are not going to come off the frag plugs. There will be no fish or hermits to mess with them till I know they are growing babies and are attached to there frag plug or rock. I have every thing but a light to set it up. So whats a cheap light I can use just to grow out zoas and maybe ricordia , stuff like that no sps, they do great in my tank.

i just bought new led lights for my shark tank. i bought them off ebay. really cool leds. you can control the whites and blues separate. it was the cheepest led system i could find for the price. $160 plus $20 for shipping. hey if your in puyallup sometime and want to stop by and check them out. let me know. i had an extra one but just sold it a few weeks ago.

I don't think I want to go LED....it seems when I get frags from LED lit tanks the colors great under LEDS but then under T5's or MH they look faded and have to color up under the different lighting.

so are you looking for mh. i have a bunch of 400 watt mh. witch i understand would be over kill on that size of a tank. i have a friend that wanted to do part trade plus some cash. he wants to trade me his 250 watt mh for my 400 watt mh. i can make the trade if your intrested in the 250 watt mh. let me know

MAN I'll have to think about that....It's only a 20 gal tall tank. A lot of over kill I think. Power compacts would probly be good.

well let me know. you should have started out saying that your looking for a power compact to cut the chase. its all good

hey Bill. i just thought of these that i have. they are aro ballast 55x2. the bulbs are i think 22 inches long. i have super atinic blue bulbs and i have i think 65k white bulbs. i only ran these for a few months. i put them on my 360 gallon. i know. we were just talking over kill. then i under killed with these on my big tank.lol let me know if something like this will work for you. i have 2 of these units and i bought a bunch of extra bulbs. i will hook you up if you want to buy them. talk to you soon. chad

Does anyone use substrate in there frag tanks???? I have a bunch of new Aragamax oolite sugar size I was going to put in for the Elements and a bio filter. Also a place to put frags .

I think you should skip the sand so that you can have more water in the tank. Do water changes as needed.

Ok tank is up and running.......Here's what I got going on.

20 gal. tall tank, prism hang on back(or side) skimmer with the media basket and surface skimmer cup, Marine land Heater, A hang on back Refugiumg with just alittle rubble and oolite sugar size deep sand bed, and a viper 150watt MH light. I put foam panels on the sides and back with the silver reflective material side towards the tank to reflect the light back into the tank. Thinking about a mangrove in the refuge and some macros.

Here's some pics of it up and running, Let me know what you think.
