I am thinking about getting a chiller for my 90 (whenever I can set it up) :) and was wondering what a good brand is and what HP I need. There are so many brands and the higher the HP the more expensive they are. In Houston I'll have air, but with my halide setup, it might be good for my tank to have a chiller. Thanks for the help!

I would recommend Pacific Coast Imports as they are nice chillers.. Work Great.. You can get Refurbs online or locally which are a few hundred cheaper and carry the same warranty as a new one... Gotta say I love mine... Plus with them being local its only a quick drive over there to get my chiller fixed if anything goes wrong with it... And last but not Least.. His Customer Service Is just plain awesome... Stands by his work 100%..

Artica

I went with the 1/10 HP unit due to width restrictions. It did fine this summer in Seattle. The ambient temp. was well above 90 degrees. The Artica unit had no problems keeping the temp. at eighty degrees for two months. I have a 120 gallon tank with aneight gallon refugium and a half-full fourteen gallon sump.

PremiumAquatics.com usually can get them.. If they dont have them listed on the website Have Jason call Over to PCI and see if they have one in the shop... I know they had a 1/2hp unit there a week or 2 ago and last time I saw Premium with the 1/2hp unit they had it listed for 499.00.. The LFS around here kinda likes to pick all of the Refurbs pretty quick as I hear he is there looking for Refurbs weekly LOL...

I run an Aqua Logic 1/4 HP on a 75 gallon reef and I'm very glad I didn't go smaller!!! I also use a Temp Controller too, with only about +/- .4 degree variation day in and day out!!! :)

The nice Thing about PCI chillers is they have a built in controller that can be set in 2, 3 and 4 degree increments... Why pay extra for a controller when you can just get a nice chiller... The 1/10hp I linked ya too is good for 10F in a 110g tank.. Should be plenty.. My friend has the same one on an 80 and it worked great this summer..

I recently returned a Teclima CA200 chiller for my new 60 gal (plus 20 gal sump) 400w MH seahorse tank. It was a toy that ran all the time and didn't do much, but the company (Fritz) gave me a full refund just because I wasn't satisfied. That was very surprising- they are a really great company but market a poor product. I replaced it with an Arctica 1/4hp mostly due to a post from a satisfied customer here in our club. I love it, it is quiet and really works. The only problem is it thinks it is about 1.6 degrees warmer than it really is, but that is adjustable. I think I am going to buy the larger Arctica 1/3hp for my 120gal reef tank, and sell the noisy Custom Sealife 1/3hp to the highest bidder. Noise is something you really need to consider, and all brands claim they are amazingly quiet. Not so.
