Got a problem with my skimmer "I think"

You really do need to get a bigger sump. Having to do topoffs twice a day sounds like a real pita.
I would look into a rubbermaid container that is bigger, anything that will hold water, just so it is big enough to give you a little breathing room.
Also, I think that once you cut back on cleaning the skimmer neck so often, the skimmer will settle down and work a little more consistantly.
I clean my skimmer neck every Sunday when I do other matainance.
It takes about a day for the proper film to build up on the skimmer neck to allow the skimate to rise the way it is suppose to.

skimmerguy, did you bother to take the time to see what kind of skimmer krish has before you thwarted others good advice?

easy there cranky pants, i wasnt thwarting anybody, but i did forget that krish has an ev series skimmer, so if you require an apology because im actually human, than so be it, im sorry.
thanks for your kind concern and eloquent mannor, largetguy

John...That's gross(LOL) I've never had skimmate like that before, but then again, never had a huge bio-load. Thanks for the replies and info:)

Finn, I had planned on putting in a 3ft sump to replace my 2ft, but never got around to it. I am trying to decide exactly how I want to do it. The sump I have now was fine until I added the sea-swirl (even though I drilled it to break the siphon) but topping off twice a day still only equal about a gallon a day which includes evaporation. Nevertheless, I will still make plans to change it:) Thanks for the reply man..

LOL...:)

The quarter turn this morning on the gate valve seemed to do the trick so far. I had a little water in the collection cup, but mostly foam and not pure water. I guess I will see how it goes from here as skimmate starts to build up in the neck and I leave it for a while. Thanks again everyone for your help. I really appreciated it:)

Hey Krish, here is a suggestion for your seaswirl delima. Is there any way you could put a spacer under it? I suppose that could be difficult with a glass tank if you have it screwed onto the rim. Did you try drilling bigger holes into it for syphon break?

I could go with a bigger hole. I was trying to decide if I was going with a bigger sump first, but I'll try the bigger hole and see how it works. About raising the sea-swirl, that couldn't work. I am limited with height because of my canopy. Any higer and it will hit. I already had to notch it to fit now(LOL)

Hey man I checked that skimmer this morning and I had some nice skimmate in there. The skimmer is finally foaming well and producing better stuff. I'll take a picture when I get home and post it. Thanks again everyone:)

As promised here are some photos of the skimmer tonight. Seems to be working well again and I'm getting a little more than just yellow water.

Also, here's the photo of the sump. You can see what I mean by the water line. If I go above that black line and the power cuts, you can call Noah to bring the Ark:)

I am new to this posting stuff,I have just installed (in the sump) a Coralife super skimmer (RES-33000) to my 55-65 gal fish only salt tank about 2 weeks ago. In the first few days it pulled out some pretty gross liquid now it just bubbles with no junk collecting what's wrong,if anything. The water looks clear w-no oil slick floating on the water surface-I have 2 maxi jet 1200 pumps-a 8 watt uv light-1 48" 50/50/bulb 1 yellow tang(sm)-1 clown-3 damsles-1 flamehawk-8-10 littlehermit crabs. The tank is clean w- no alge.

Welcome to RF Tazzzz! About the skimmer, they do that from time to time. I've had mine go days without producing anything and then all of a sudden, I'd get skimmate. The reason for this thread was because that happened to me, but I was getting mostly water recently and not really any skimmate anymore. I guess where the skimmer was just put on the tank, it had a lot of waste to remove. Now that it has, you probably won't get as much especially without a huge bio-load.
