...and I have a question. Will adding Base Rock to my existing reef cause another cycle? If so how bad of one is likely and what precausions should I take?

Thanks for the tips.

If it is dry base rock no. If it is live base rock that is uncured yes. If it is live base rock that has been cured for 4-6 weeks in tank that now tests clean, no. Hows that for a answer. LOL Steve

agreed with above. It is likely to stimulate a cycle or at least fluctuations.

Well since it is dry white base rock I think that it should be fine. in time it will become seeded by the rock I already have and become liverock. I assume that since it is dry it will just slowly build up a bacteria, flora and fauna colony, right? But the last poster have confused me again.

I have an established 20L with two HOBs, one a skilter (CRAP) and one Fuge with marco. In the tank are just the clean up crew, 15lbs of live rock, the cleaner shrimp and 2 fish. How will adding over 15lbs of dry base rock likely affect the system and should I add it slowly over time or all at once?

It should be fine to add it all at once. If you really wanna be trick about it. Rinse it really well in rodi, then let it sit in a bucket or cooler with a powerhead and water you take out of your tank for a waterchange. Put like a little bit of your live rock in with it, you would have a head start and no feeling of stress. If you just put it in dry it should be ok as well. (after rinsing well in rodi, preferabley a good 24 hour soak in rodi to draw out phosphates and whatever else is in it. HTH Steve
