Grade of clams

Im wanting to know how they base the grading on clams? I have been looking at them online for awhile now and I cant really figure it out. There is so many different grades for the same type. You have Super, Ultra, Rare and so on and so on. Some of them look the same to me but they just have different names next to them. Is this just a way for the poeple to make a little more money just by putting that by the name?

haha not entirely true. They grade it by color. A light purple is not going to get a super grade. It will probably get a middle to lower grade. While a dark, deep purple will get a super grade. They claim it is for "Show" purposes. I've never understood why you would "Show" a clam. Its not like played a role in its colors. They aren't dogs where you have to train them to sit in the sand and be open and pretty. lol
