I've been maintaining cultures of Tisbe and Tigriopus for about 10 months now and have learned a few things. One is that your cultures once established are very forgiving.
I keep my Tisbe in a used salt bucket, a few sheets of egg crate for extra surface area, and a air line constantly running. In the beginning the culture may need a few water changes to keep ammonia down but will stabilize after awhile.
The Tigriosus I just keep in a cat litter box in 1 1/2" deep water, they are tide pool dwellers after all.
I feed both population nannochloropsis, arguably not the best micro algea but one that I can get glycerine free so it will freeze.
The one thing I have learned is that if your pod culture has a serious crash don't go buy more culture. I've even had my tigriosus dry up in the litter box. just add water and the dormant eggs will hatch weeks later. Seems like pod eggs can survive the appocolypse! (or the occation bad husbandry) thats what I meant by forgiving.
In the tank I have had a steady population and rarely need to add. My cultures are more back up than anything. I have had a fat happy mandarin for close to a year now.
I got by paste from Brine Shrimp Direct, sadly they don't have copepods, but if I ever got into Rotifers I think I would check them out. Isochrsis algae is now glycerine free, woot! That's supposed to be more nutritious.
