the LFS guy talked me out of the diatom filter. I added a big ball of cheato(sp?) to my fuge.

he told me to go back to full light schedule and just let it burn itself out. it will be an interesting experiment.

He is correct in that you would waste a ton of money if you were to buy a gadget for every possible contingency...

Diatom filter will work on the micron level & many have used them for years & years to polish their tanks, these do work really well but I don't like the design of priming them to get it going but they have awesome results & probably the best type of mechanical filtration, other than a good skimmer & that is a maybe IMO.

Its not a waste of money at all. They are great to have around. The small one goes for about $120 new and you can find them for almost nothing used. Any time you have something like this happen youl wish you had one instead of waiting weeks for it to clear up. If youve ever had something like a big clam or anemone die you know what a mess that makes and how it fuels algae. Accidents happen in this hobby diatom filters make short work of the clean-up so you dont have to deal with the problems.

Don

FWIW there are plenty on ebay right now even an XL for $85

"I put about 10 pounds of LR in the fuge area and added a CF light"

adding new algae will do that,

you dont need a UV.
