Don as I understand it you are feeding 100ml of rodi water with each tsp of clam meat and with 125 ml of GLN mixed in at the same time??? How often are you doing this feeding? and are you doing it at night or during photo period. My wife and I take L-Glutamine in the powder form mixed in water. Are you using a liquid form of GLN.??? and what is the strength on the bottle?? Very interesting results your getting. I would think you would get a very good response from just the clam juice, why are you adding the GLN.?? Very nice John

125mg of GLN 1/4 of a 500mg tablet. I feed based on my schedule sometimes during the day and sometimes at night, theres no rhyme or reason but always once a day.
I did 60 days without the gln with the same slow growth as the past two years. The amino seems to have a effect on the uptake or metabalism and without the amino it takes almost 3 hours for the tank to clear vs 30 minutes.
I may hit my dad up with a few "why" questions if I talk to him over the holidays.

Very interesting Don. I wonder what would happen just dosing the GLN and just letting the corals feed off of the detritus from the fish food poop. I am surprised that feeding once a day that clam juice doesn't have an effect on the algae growth in the tank. Very interesting. John

The object is to find the right combo of amino's and very high proteins (oysters). The Italians already do this with somatropin. I wouldnt even concider asking my dad for that stuff. I really dont concider this a natural approach but beats synthetic hormones.:)

Well have to give it a try and see what happens. My corals seem happy but am always interested in anything that well help keep them better in captivaty. Thanks John

Well i tried Donw growth method and it works pretty good! For 1 week i added into my 65 gallon ¼ teaspoon of puree oyster meat and 60mg of glutamine. I am pretty impressed with what has happened in a week. The shots below show some of the growth my frags are showing. I recieved this frag on nov 17,2006.

I am going to run with this feeding program for 3 more weeks and see what develops.

Interesting topic...

Don, I noticed in your pictures that your coral in addition to tissue growth has shown (at least it looks like it to me) rapid skeletal growth as well....any ideas on why this might be? Do you think that the food may perhaps be boosting the coral metabolisim to the point where it is processing calcium out of its tissue at an accelerated rate, or is the skeletal growth due simply to the larger tissue mass?

The skeletal growth is something that needs to be experimented with. Since the skeleton is just a waste product I'd like to find a good balance of skeleton and tissue. I started this with elevated ca alk and mg. Most corals are building nice thick tissue right along with what I could concider a balanced skeleton. Others thin flesh corals like the tri-color seem to build the skeleton to fast and will split the flesh along the length of a branch. Obviously care has to be taken not to accelerate growth so quickly that you just have a bunch of thin fleshed corals.
Honestly I wasnt after fast growth with gln. I was trying to speed the rate that nitrogen was metabolized, but I guess if we can metabolize nitrogen more effectivly the growth would be a side effect. Gln along with hGH helps burn victims overcome nitogen wasting. Also helps with burn wound healing when grafting human to synthetic skin.

wait, what?? they give corals growth hormone???

Yes, but there is no way its actually working the same way it does in humans. Even the users are just starting to figure out its really the feeding and the amminos and how the hGH is affecting the amminos. What I'm after is the same nice growth but without the hGH. But lets not turn this into another hGH thread.:)

Na! You can run over to most any gym or high school and get it pretty cheap. Just make sure your not buying it fom the DEA, now that will be costly.
OMG!! that's hilarious, but true!!!!

You are feeding this every day? Have you tried every other to prevent the tissue from splitting?

No, but I am bringing down ca alk and mg. I would guess the overly elevated levels have alot to do with it.
