Well I went out on a limb and purchased a Hach 890 colorimeter. I find it a bit beyond my normal understanding of test kits and am hoping someone here has used them before. I'm hoping to avoid errors in purchasing incorrect reagents or ranges of tests. This was a used model and was just the unit. I have downloaded the manual from Hach. I have not called them yet to discuss tests needed. The accuvac ampules sound easy...

Thanks,
Jon

Do not waste your time with a Ca++, Mg++, NO2- or NO3 tests the meter will be off. NO2 and NO3 can be measured with a special std. Some tests like copper, silica, phosphate will be fine. Let me know which ones you are after. We are dealing with seawater testing here and this meter is for FW but some test will work out fine in seawater. The issue will be that seawater interferes with some tests due to high chloride ions in seawater @ 19,000 ppm.

You are going to have problems with Ca++ due to Mg++ interference greater 200 ppm and seawater is 1300 ppm Mg++

Here is a review in regards to NO3 and N02 you will need special stds. You will also not be able to measure sulfates, the limit is 0-70 mg/l and seawater is 2700 ppm. And pH will/may be an issue

Well that clears things up. I'm really confused or maybe over my head. I dropped a note to Dana for his thoughts on this too. Phosphates, Silicates, Iodine, Ph, DOC, Calcium and Magnesium were some tests I was interested in doing. It seems I may have to go outside the box to figure them out. I don't have any reagents or sample cells yet.
