Just recently got new 250 Watt radiums at the br sale and today I notice a hairline crack in the glass ...do I need to be concerned that it spreads or explodes ...anybody???What could have caused this ???Heat?defect?Any input would be appreciated!!!!

Besides the chance of it exploding, I would be concerned about UV radiation leaking, not worth the chance

Agreed...Had one crack on me from a bit of water splashing on the bulb while it was hot and I was told to toss it because of the UV leaking out. Bummer... :doubt:

If it is really new like you used it a few days and it just cracked, take it back, see what BR says, they may just hook you up! Maybe not but worth the try, If you buy there regulary than you may get lucky. JMO!

It would be cool if they did but in most cases sale items are on an "as is" kinda basis so typically not many stores will do a return on a sale item. You never know though :)

Yea I agree but I've learned long ago, it doesn't hurt to ask, I was surprised many times by just doing so! :)

It's not about the money it is always better to be safe. What if it popped in your tank or worse in your face.

Through the hairline crack, UV radiation will leak. This will quickly bleach out corals, that are hit by this radiation. Also, the bulb is leaking UV radiation into the living environment of your family. Obvious safety concerns!!

If this bulb was purchased new, I'd definitely return it and request an exchange.
