Halide cool down time

Any Idea how much time you should let the SE halides cool down before turning back on.

Well I don't know how long you should let them cool, but mine will turn back on after about 10 or 15 mins.

What is actually cooling down the bulb or the ballast?

The way I understand it, a MH ballast will not fire a hot bulb. Mine do as big t stated, 10-15 min and they come back on.

Thanks thats what I was counting on. 20 min should be fine after a power failure?

You are good for 15-20 minutes Don. I don't think it matters what the wattage is either. My 250's and 400's both take that long.

You can turn it back on but it just wont fire. Just like gym lights that kids smartly turn off and then the whole gym is dark for 20 mins..

My understanding is that is bad for the ballast, but could be wrong. Actually i'm just writing more automation code and thought it would be a nice feature to add.

I wait 20 minutes on a manual cycle and automatically it does it at about 15 minutes.

It shouldn't hurt the ballast to leave it energized while awaiting the bulb to cool down and re-fire after a single outage. What does hurt them is when you have a bulb going bad and they cycle constantly.

Thanks, thats good to know. The delay also keeps the power surge to a minimum. All the pumps and halides turning on at the same time is a huge draw.
