I was wanting to start a thread and was hoping someone could add a line or two...

Happiness is being able to talk about a hobby you really enjoy with friends that feel the same.....:)

great thread, Ed!

.....when people come over and go straight to the tank to see what's new or different.

When your neighbors ask what you are growing with all those lights.

In all honesty

When things are going great in the tank and you can just sit back and see growth

Happiness is... meeting so many giving people in the PSAS that were willing to help me out when I was having hard luck with money.

Thanks to everyone that helped me out with tank gear when I was out of a job!

"When your neighbors ask what you are growing with all those lights."

I would have said " Oh I'm growing a bunch of...wait..you meant the light coming from my fish tank?" HeHeHe

... Being able to propagate a new generation of livestock so there's one less thing to take from the ocean.

Oh, you guys are gonna make me tear up!

Happiness is seeing CoralGirlShi running around testing water with test kits all by herself (she's nine)! And, having her remind me the names of stuff because I'm getting too old!

Way to go CoralGirlShi!!

Colleen - how awesome! Mine's two and she's funny when it comes to reef stuff. If she sees 2 clownfish together .... she now says, "There's Nemo and there's a Clownfish". LOL She has also graduated from calling corals broccoli and cauliflauer to calling them corals...sometimes she even gets the names right. Amazing what they pick up.

Kids are fun

I have the same situation with my daughter. Nemo and Dori. Thats what she say's. Hopefully she will be into the hobby as well.

...living in a time and a place where we have the resources (time, finances, access to knowlege, ease and ability to share with others) to persue a hobby that is educational, intellectual, artistic, rewarding, and to share all of this with family and friends around the world. We are so very fortunate.

Hi Nikki!

Yes, it's very fun! She impresses me with her memory for the names of things! It was quite cute when she went and checked the ph and alk in the tanks. We made a chart for all the tanks and we did every test, and so she can watch how it changes (hopefully NOT)! She knows every inch in her tank and every critter in there. She's emptying and cleaning her skimmer cup too, and really loves checking the gunk in it. Gunk in the cup is good I told her! So she is wow, look at this! She bought the tank herself with birthday money and allowance she saved which was kind of cool. Santa brought her a 12 gallon eclipse which we set up fresh, as we just had fresh at the time but her heart was salt. So, finally I set up a salt, and soon after she was saving money for a bigger and better one. I told her she can go even bigger yet in her room, as she has the light and skimmer that will work on the next bigger tank up! Hmmmm....

My 3yr old grandson will sit by the tank with me and ask. Grampa how come the fish does this or that. My 6mo old granddaughter loves to sit on my lap when she's grumppy and watch the fish swim by totally contented. Like father, like son, like grandson, like granddaughter. Once you get the bug it's there for life.

I remember when I was a young boy I told my dad I wanted an aquarium. He put an add in the Seattle Paper "Small Boy Wants Small Aquarium" A lady about 70 YO gave me a 5 gal tank full of guppies and that was only the beginning. She will never know what she started but I thank her for her generosity.
