I could be one that works like the 12 volt coolers you can plug in your car that can heat or cool. It all depends on the air temp and it does say in the manual that the air temp has to be below 38c

Ya try and run it outside the stand so it has a fresh air supply. Ill bet that may help. It is actually underrated for that size tank but you should see more then 1 degree difference. Yes it could be because it was in the stand. It may not have been getting enough fresh air. Same thing would happened to any refrigerator. If you put it in a box with no air circulating into that box even if it is some what open, eventually it will not be able to cool.

Ok so I hooked it up last night and now it's leaking around the input output of the chiller. So I took it off and am going to see what I can do. I don't have the best luck right now I guess. I don't see how its leaking I used that silicon tape on the threads and everything. Once I get it to stop leaking and hooked up Ill let you know how its going.

I had trouble with that kind of stuff leaking too. I found that just coating the threads with fish tank silicone was the best leak stop. It’s not a permanent bond to that abs plastic material so you can take it apart when needed but sure stops the leaks well. I’ve used it also with the barbed connections to flexible tubing and work great for me.

That is what I was thinking of doing but was worried. Thanks for the info just did it. How long does it take to dry?

To be honest with you I never really waited any amount of time other then what it took to finish what ever job I was doing. I don’t know if that’s the best move but that’s what I did and so far haven’t sprung any leaks on the fittings I put it on that were leaking before I started. Probably best to wait for the amount of time on the instructions of the product your using.

Wow silicone solved the problem. Thanks. It is plumbed and running will see how it does. It is behind the stand and has a fan on it.

Ok so the chiller still isn't working enough so I put the fan back on the top. Might need a bigger chiller or something. Any one have one of these chillers and is it working any better than mine?

Ok I have been trying different things and as far as I can tell the chiller just isn't big enough or just not the right one. The only way I can keep it at 80 is to have a fan at the top of the tank. And of course its causing a lot of evaporation but it's cool at least.

Have you tried turning the chiller off & just blowing a fan across the top? I ran a 34g tank with a 250 MH inches from the water & kept it cool with one fan blowing across the surface of the water.

You can't run a fan across the top it is a really small area on these JBJ nanos but I have turned the chiller and the tank temperature goes up probably about 2 degrees more than when its running.

If you could open the top somehow to allow for better heat exchange that should help lots, even a small tank you should be able to add a fan somewhere, making a bracket maybe, I've seen it done.

On a side note that isn't much of a chiller it needs cooler room temps. to make it work well, it depends on being really clean on the fins & getting cooler air to move across that surface area.
