Not been on here for a good few years, glad to be back. Moved from England 7 years ago to Canada and miss my tank, I had to give it up when I moved. In the proccess of building a new tank at long last. Bigger and better than the last one. I hope lol.
60"x 27"x 40" deep, made out of 3/4" starphire glass, well front and sides anyway. Going to run 2 x 400 MH ( I hope these will punch the depth of water) and 4x T5 blues. Just picked up a Royal Exclusiv Super Marine 250 protine skimmer, and a Baraccuda gold pump. Sump tank is going to be in the basement where i'll have plenty of room to expand.
Any helpfull suggestions are most welcome and i hope to get some pics posted soon.
all the best, Steve

Welcome back!! :welcome:. That's a big tank you are going with and deep!!. Hopefully those 400w MH's will penetrate deep enough. If not, just put your higher light demanding corals higher in the tank and the less light demanding corals down low. What type of setup are you looking at going with? Full blown reef? Softy's etc?

Looking forward to the build! Good luck! :)

In all honesty not sure, Think it will end up full reef.
Just finished bracing the floor to take the weight lol. Got alot of wiring to sort out. Hope to lift tank into position next week and start filling next month. Time will tell. I think when it is running the water depth will sit at about 37 inches.
Not sure yet wether to put a closed loop in while I can or go with a couple of ecotech marine vortex mp60's. That is where you guys come in. Any help is gladly received :)

That's always been the big debate...Closed loop or powerheads LOL. Both are just as good as the other IMO if set up properly so I guess it is which look you are after. With the closed loop, that would require a bit of drilling so you will have to decide if that is something you are interested in doing/having done and 3/4 inch isn't thin :p. You can do an over the top closed loop, but they aren't as easy on the eyes as if you drilled the tank. I guess it is something you will have to really decide on. I've had both setups (powerheads and closed loop) and both did the trick. :)

I think I may draw the line at drilling holes in the tank lol. Maybe the next tank I'll have drilled.
This is me in the tank, checking for scratches and having a beer lol. Fish eye view

A couple more pics, not where the tank will be living by the way. Just got to work out how to lift a 700 pound tank 4 feet in the air lol

Checking for scratches aye! Looks like your hard at work on that. lol..

Sweet size tank. Are you setting it up pennisula style?

Again, not sure what to do, want to get the tank in and plumbed then sit down look a few other tanks for ideas on landscaping. I'm hoping it will be at least eye catching when people visit lol

We had a powerhead vs closed loop thread here recently. I'd back track my posts to find it as I made quite a few posts in there, but that would take forever . Going to do some digging for you though to see if the thread can help you decide on which route to go. Give me a few to find it. :)

Thanks Krish, Had a read and it really boils down to personal preference . Think I'm going to run with a couple of Vortex MP 60's. That way I can alternate the flow better. Thanks for the help.
