Hello to all at reef frontiers. This is the first forum I've ever joined so I don't know to much about the technical details of posting and uploading etc. I'm sure I will pick it up with some help. Anyway I'm in the process of building a 2 foot plywood cube which is going to be a through the wall design. I'm a keen DIY builder and hope to make my own LED array with the help of this forum. I'v read loads of posts so far and everyone seems so helpfull which is one of the reasons why I chose RF to join.:biggrin1:

Welcome to RF it is a good forum for many reasons:) Glad you picked us...need help just ask and we like DIY's too so post pics when you can:wave:

I have cut out 3 sides for viewing. 8mm glass will be siliconed into the cut outs creating 2 foot square windows. Hope that makes sense. When i've worked out how to post some pictures you will see what I am trying to do.

Hey! Another BIG :welcome: aboard Reef Frontiers glad you found us. A 60 gallon cube is a great size and dimention tank for a Reeftank, looking forward to your build thread. One question, why plywood instead of all glass with painted panels (3) for this size of aquarium I'd think easier and safer (long term) ??? Are you planning on fiberglassing or ??? Also very cool to add another avid DIYer to the site.

Cheers, Todd

A few people have asked me the same question, I guess I'm trying to create something a little different. Carpentry is my trade so rather than just a glass tank it I'm hoping it will blend in as a piece of furniture. (keeps the wife happy!) The inside of the tank will be sealed with epoxy resin reinforced with woven glass cloth, black pigment will also be added to the resin and I will use black silicon to stick the glass in.

Kind of a cabinet and tank all in one package. Will you still have a stand to hide a sump/equipment and such?

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people and some amazing DIY ideas on this site.

This is going to be a very good looking tank. I don't think I have seen one built this way before :)

It looks like you have a space behind the back wall. Are you planning on some filter chambers built in to the back?

Pipe work will be concealed in the walls and routed to my sump in the garage. I want the display tank to be clutter free. The tank will be supported on the wall in the cut out, I will probably weld up some steel bars to make a base to help with the weight.
