Help,
A couple days ago my coral banded shrimp molted. Last night he came out of hiding and to my suprise he only has two legs! No feeding arms, No claws, nothing, only two legs. His body looks fine, his antenna are all messed up as well. My water chemistry is normal. Iodine is dosed three times a week at about 2ml. My reef tank is only 30 gallons, 35 lbs live rock 1/2 dozen soft corals and 1 xenia all doing great. My only problem is my coral banded shrimp. Please give me any imput anybody has.

He was probley attacked after molting or during molting. For me I dont dose anything unless I have a test kit. It is very easy to push Iodine, Ca, Alk, Stronti, Mg almost anything way to high, following the instructions of people that sell the supplements. They dont make 1000% profit if you dont use it. A test kit is usually cheaper than a bottle of supplement, and you will only dose what is neccesary. Saving you money in the long run in fish, corals, shrimp, and supplements. I would hand feed with feeding stick frozen brine shrimp, or anything he will eat. If it will not eat it will probley molt again soon, or of course it will perish. Give it a chance. I have knocked most of the legs off shrimp in nets and stuff. Now I catch them in my hand and move them that way.

Still hanging

Thanks for the reply. He is still hanging from the roof of his cave. Wont come out of course. I managed to squirt some brine shrimp his direction. Maybe he got some. I will keep you posted.
thanks

Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!! I also think it might have been attacked during or after the molt. Let us know how it does!

To all concerned parties. I regret to inform you of the recent passing of my beloved Coral Banded Shrimp. He passed quietly and in his sleep, though maybe a little hungry. I also regret to inform you that no grave side services will be held, due to the fact that i fed his remains to my serpent star. :D
My kids have now been tramatized by the experience of death. And so off to the pet store, to start this process over. My kids will be jaded before this is over.

Anyway thanks to all who responded.

Hey Pauls,
I would reccomend that you NOT dose Iodine. If you're doing regular water changes, you're keeping the levels of iodine just fine in the water column. If you OD on iodine, you will nuke all crustaceans in your tank. I know cause I've done it.

Maxx,
Thanks for the tip. I'll get a test kit. The last thing i want is to nuke the little fellers.
