A storage tote would work in a pinch which it sounds like you might be in. Real cheap just to get your algae, skimmer, heater back in some water.

Man this sump pretty much exploded. Who makes these acrylic sumps? Its not a "real" sump apparently but a custom reef sump. Is there a local co, that makes these?

I have my temp sump if what you found falls through. It is a large heavy duty black plastic container. Works great though in a pinch.

Pm me if needed. I am near the intersection of I5 and I90

I think I know this place! It's next to that house with the windows around it and has some grass as well as some trees with the road out front. I'll have to pop by one day! :peace:

As for the storage container, that's always a great idea. I always had one on hand because you just never know. As for the sumps quality, I bought a wet/dry when first getting into aquariums and it was a mass produced model made very cheaply. The thing bowed in no time and I had to have one re-built. Since then, every sump I've had was custom so I could get the thickness of acrylic I wanted as well as the grade/quality acrylic I wanted. Fish tanks and sumps aren't something you want to take short cuts with.

Good luck :)

Thanks everyone, I found a nice 30 gallon bowfront glass tank to fit in there for now. I am considering sticking with glass as I think this acrylic sump I have reason to believe is made by said fabricator, and I dont feel like doing this again in a few years.

No problem but since you quoted me I cannot remove the reference.

If you are still looking for a sump I have 30 gallon glass tank for $20, it is 18" tall 12" wide by 3' long.

To be fair, lets try and keep all sale options either in private (pm's) or in the classifieds.

Thanks dude! :)

If that sump was made by Jason I doubt it would have exploded. That guy does top notch work

I would like to see a picture of this sump that exploded. I got your PM and PMed you back with a price quote. Sorry you had this happen. If is one that came from my shop, I would replace it for you. Do you know the history on this sump? How old is it? What is the thickness of the body? Looking forward to your reply, Jason

Jason has been a sponsor here for a while and I have always heard nothing, but great things about him, his work and his company. I've seen his work on the forum and it is always top notch. One thing people have to keep in mind is anything can go bad. I remember the GM dealership having a batch of Chevy Silverado's come in all brand new. It was like 20 odd trucks. One truck got to the dealership and the engine seized up and they had to replace the motor in a brand new truck right off of the production line. This is how it is with anything. My close friend owns an LFS and they always have All-Glass tanks (now Aqueon) spring leaks on the first fill up. Sometimes it's just how people handle them. You lift a tank with gravel and some water in it to move to another location and you are taking a chance at a seal breaking or you grab an acrylic sump by one of the sides filled with water and drag it across the floor putting stress on the joint so I wouldn't go so far as saying you wouldn't buy a sump or even a tank from Jason ever again because of your experience with this present sump (which he may not have even built). It could happen with any sump no matter who build it, but atleast you know you will be going with a reputable company and dedicated top notch builder. Like I said, anything could happen and stuff just happens sometimes...

JMHO :)

I have not heard from Kelly at all. I will try to reach him by phone, still want to try to help the guy even if his sump isn't from my shop. I fix tanks from other manufactures all the time. My shop can't be more than 10 miles from his house. Jason

Hey thanks everyone. I am concerned about the acrylic more than anything else as the sump looked to be very well built.

The sump basically pulled itself apart. I will try and get some pics, but I am going to trash it. (thanks for the offer to help me repair Jason!) The pics will show what I am talking about.

The thing I like about glass is that when the silicone gets a crack.split, etc. It will not all release along the line like my sump did. So even if the glass were to get a crack etc., it would not split like this all at once.
