Found this critter on my glass by my mag float. When I moved it, it fell to the ground and creeped away onto a rock. It is larger than a quarter, light grey with dark spots all over. It moves like a slug. I did not see any kind of mouth on its under side but it has an opening on top that looks feathery like a flower and it closed when I touched it. The closest thing I could find online that looked like it was a spotted nudibranch. Can anyone tell me what it is and more importantantly if it is safe to have in my reef tank??? Thanks so much!

It appears to be Dendrodoris elongata, a type of nudi. I don't believe they are particularly toxic, but I'm not sure if they are a predator or not.

Hey, thanks for the link, I think I found it!

Discodoris fragilis (Alder and Hancock, 1864)
Location: Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia
Size: 95 mm
Depth: Intertidal found under rock
Temperature: 26 C ORDER: NUDIBRANCHIA
FAMILY: Discodorididae
brown

I will do some more research though because it did not say anything about what it eats or does.

So, I guess it is a Discodoris fragilis. I found that they eat sponges which I have many of in different colors and sizes, the largest one being a red tree sponge that has four branches and stands over a foot tall. I think I will keep the little guy around unless I find that my sponge growth cannot cope with his appetite!
