I work at a pet store and while feeding and doing some maintance in the saltwater department I noticed a few things I had never seen before. The first thing was a tan and white hermit crab that was in with our blue legs and clove polyps. The next two things I don't know how to describe other than they look like something out of a sci-fi flick. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

They are really cool looking for sure. I just don't know if that thing in the rock is kosher. The tentical things are strong enough to pick up and move pieces of crushed coral. I work at the Marysville PETCO.

the one with long stringy tentacles looks like a spaghetti worm and is a good scavenger/feeder

the thing on the glass has sticky feet/suckers around the entire body. it's probably a good 15mm from tip to tip. & the stringy thing, by good scavenger/feeder it's ok where it's at? granted that's what it is... we have odd things growing in our invert tanks all the time. & these two things kinda worried me.

Matt's right, the creature in the rock is a spaghetti worm. They are fine in the tank and fun to watch when they come out.

Susie :)

Thanks Susie. So now I know the worm is ok where it's at. Any other ideas as to what the creature on the glass could be. After watching it today at work it seems harmless. It would be nice to know what it was though. Since customers keep asking about it.

Most juvi tube footed critters are ok. As they mature, they can still be OK as long as they aren't a starfish and those typically look different. This one looks like a detritus eater to me which would make it safe. Now if you saw a fish held fast getting it's guts sucked out, I might change my opinion:lol::lol:

Well I would think it was a detritus eater if it didn't stay on the sides of the tank all. It also tried eating some brine shrimp. Which may not mean anything except that it was hungry. I rearranged everything in our invert system so now the only thing in with it are mushroom rocks and a huge black cap basslet.

Filter feeder, whatever it can net out of the water, plankton, particulate, etc.
I'd bet it is a Sea Cucumber and is a nifty hitchhiker
