I have a 150 gallon tank and would like to get a little more into have corals that require more lighting. I keep reading on t5 and metal halide. What is everyone's opinion on these two lighting systems???? Which one is best as far as electricity cost and actually buying the setup???? It is all so confusing everyone has their own opinion on lighting some say use both some say use one or the other.... Is it better to do it your self or buy one that is already to go... Please help!!!!

Oh,Oh....... you opening up a whole can of worms with that question! You are gonna find pros and cons for both type of lighting. The bottom line is.....either one together or alone will do the job. It becomes a matter of personal perefence as to which one you choose.

T-5, about a 6-8 bulb fixture with indivdual reflectors for each bulb will do the trick.

MH 2 250 watt will work.

The thing you want to do is visit your LRS and compare the lighting over the tanks for yourself to see which one you like the best.
I believe th T-5 will use a little less energy then the MH.
I prefer to but already to go....not much spare time for me.
