Yes dad! LOl...Going to do some homework then. So your saying they suck?

I just finished reading (when I should be sleeping to get over this bronchtus), but I think I can answer that question for you...No, you don't necessarily think they suck, but for me it probably won't benefit me any to spend the extra bucks for a skimmer which probably, for one, in my case, may have too high a flow rate on such a small system to be effective. I learned a few things like dwell time, bombardment rate, contact time and right mixture of air to water ratio (just to name a few) and I'm sort of grasping the concept and theory behind skimmers now and never knew they could be so calculative and specific. I'll have to read it again to see if I mised anything and besides, the second time is always a charm.

So in my case, I still don't think I got anywhere unless I build my own skimmer and fine tune it myself, but right now, time definatley won't permit it so I think i'll have to rely on a product I can buy and fine tune myself if need be. So IYO, what would you or anyone suggest from their own personal experiences? I know I already posted another thread on "What skimmer to buy", but I'm really ready to purchase one while my other stuff is on the way and being shipped from the states so I don't have too much of a gap in between items coming in. Tanks again.

I don't have much experience with different brands. I built my first skimmer years ago, and it worked out so well I've built them all since then. I did try the Euro-Reef design as I said before, and it seems to work well. The other skimmers I've built have been from my own design. Even if you buy one you might try building one just for the hell of it. They're actually not all that hard to build. On most of mine I just use black ABS or PVC pipe, PVC fittings, and of course Uniseals. Handy little things.

Krish - have you thought about any of the recirculating models? If I could buy a new skimmer right now, since making one would result in my losing an arm or something, I would do a recirculating euro-reef.

Krish good to see you did your homework, rofl. If you are looking for dwelltime in a skimmer, then a skimmer that pumps alot of water through the skimmer is not a good idea. If you are looking for a good bambardment rate and dwell time for air then a skimmer that injects the water and air through the same loation is not a good idea.
Look for a skimmer that keeps the water in the skimmer longer, this also applies to the air. also look for the correct size of bubble. Most of the skimmers out thier like becketts, downdrafts or other high powered injector systems wont provide that. Look to recirc skimmers such as euroreef, deltec and simular or air driven skimmers like lifereef and so on.
On your system the skimmer is going to be very important and having it sent to the bahamas cant be cheep either. I just want you to get one that you will be sucessful with.

How is your tank doing without a skimmer? Many reefers run skimmerless; I did it for years with excellent results. I have used most of the gadgets out there and as each year goes by and I remove one of them I realize it was never needed.

Oh, I do have a skimmer. It came incorporated in my wet/dry (pro150 by proaquatics). I wanted to pull it out and get a more efficient skimmer. I'll have to look into the suggestions posted above. I've seen so many skimmers online lately. I'm going to go back and see what I come up with. Patience is a virtue...so my wife says

Hey Mojo...Those Euroreef and deltec skimmers look like in sump skimmers. I need something that I can sit externally dodo or am I the dodo (JK) lol, but I do need an external skimmer or maybe even a hang on sump skimmer.

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-06/fm/feature/index.php This site had some good points. Everything talked about on the thread "skimming 101" is dicussed here. Good comparisons between skimmer types are also provided. Good piece on info to read and what I got from it, was that despite which skimmimg method you go with (air driven, needle wheel etc) they are all pretty much the same in productivity. All it mostly is then is a matter of opinion and personal preference.

My apologies Mojo...I was looking at the Euroreef skimmers at premiumaquatics which are all in sump, but aquadirect sells the external ones. Can you say $$$Chaching$$$
