Help! something strange is going on with pink Hammer

I came home today to find the pink hammer has a long tentacle like thing reaching out and away from the coral. And the view from the top shows that it has a hole in the center. what is goin on? anyone know?

when you say "hole" do you mean the mouth or is the flesh actually opening up and receeding from the skeleton...as far as the "long tentacle like thing" hammer corals like to release some of their zooxanthellae from time to time...mine do it usually if some condition in the tank changes quickly...ie new lighting, big water change, addition of some sort of additive or even the day after a large feeding. If the flesh isn't ripping from the skeleton then i'd say you're in the clear and let it do its thing (IMO/IME)

I added a photo of the 'hole' to the original post.

maybe it is OK then. that tank is due its water change Monday, but I did have a big feeding yesterday....and it is a smaller tank than I used to feed mysis to...so probably did overfeed, although I knew the water change was coming up.
