help with algae

hi guys names dru. kinda new to the sites. i have a issue in my tank. there is purple stuff growing all over the tank. it is all over my rocks. at first it was very little and i thought it was just coralline but then it started to take over my rocks. then some of it got long and hung off the rock like hair algae. i peeled some of it off, and it comes off in chunks. i was just wondering if anyone knew what it is and what i should do to get rid or it. thanks for any help, ill try to add pics later if that could help i.d it. thanks again

it maybe. ive never had it before. but it is all over like crazy lol. do u know how i can get rid of it??? any ideals would help because its driving me nuts! but everything in the tank seem to be doing well so thats good. thanks for the help

well what i did when the entire bottom floor of my 50 gallon was covered in red algae, i just sucked up as much of the algae as i could then swapped out 10-20% of the water.

It sounds like you have cyano. You need to increase the amount of flow and ID nitrate/phospahte sources wich are most likely coming from what you are feeding or how much.

Ya let us know how it works. I've been battling green hair algae but it's almost gone now. Water changes and stuff that eats the algae was the key for me. I've heard cyano can be a beast to beat tho

Water change more, Feed less. Find out whats feeding it, and increase flow. Try to suck it up during changes.

Sounds like a cyno outbreak to me - if it's offgassing O2 - bubbles coming off the surface of the red mat, it almost certainly is cyno. Follow Iroll253's advice and you should get a leg up on it. Also, consider going dark for a couple days as cyno is very dependent on light.

I would find the source of ur problems, Where are u getting ur water from? have u tested for PO4, good luck.

i hate algae, i have some brown stuff and i cant get rid of it. my top off water probably needs to be cleaned a bit more, by an RO
