help with an overflow??

I'm rebuilding my overflow and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the inside box.... I am looking to find out how wide the slots at the top are and how far is it between them. I appreciate the help. thanks

Usually 1/4 is best, to much wider then that and you can suck critters through it.

Thanks! I went to make it today and it turned out great. Made it out of 1/4" Lucite, weld-on #16, drill press, table saw (w/plywood blade) and a sharpie marker. I will have pictures posted on my web site soon.
