Hey ya'll I bought a regal tang the other day and today noticed it has white nodules on its skin. I think its ich. But anyway, I purchased Kick Ich and I did the first dosage today. Anyone know how well this stuff works. I've read mixed reviews. Hopefully it works. Anyway, any other suggestions to treat ich for my tang I would greatly appreciate. Thanks!

Tons of information here on this topic. Take a look through the "Marine Fish Discussion with Steve Skinner" forum, someone asks this every week, I guarantee it

My oppinion is when ever a tang stresses your chances of getting ich are about 50 percent plus. If I have a new tang and it breaks out with ich and its inside my tank and I can not get it out.
I would use a UV sterilizer. I would try not to make any changes if my water quality is good. If My water quality is on the border, I would do a water change with water same temp and salinity into sump. I would not use meds and try to keep fish calm as possible. I mean make as little changes as possible. Tangs like to hide and sleep in their own spots.
Never try to feed your fish the first day of acclimation and feed the best food you can.
Thats my oppinion...wish you luck..

the stuff you bought is pretty worthless...hypo or copper are the choices for treating ich...hypo being the better choice..is the tang in a qt tank or your display??? if it is in your display, you need to get him in qt and treat it ..try to get a pic of the tang..it is most likely ich, but the pic will tell for sure..

I agree with Ron J. Hyposalinity is the best treatment in my opinion. You will need to use a refractometer though, instead of a hydrometer. The reason for this is that you'll have to get the salinity down to 1.009. Anything above that won't gaurantee killing the parasite. Most hydrometers just aren't accurate enough to use. I'd recommend keeping the salinity at that level for at least 5 weeks from the time you see NO signs of Ich. Steve-S is a great source and has posted and responded a lot on RF about fish health. The only problem with hyposalinity is that it'll kill any inverts, snails, corals...etc. in your tank. If you're able to do this in a QT tank, that's the best approach. Tangs are notorious for Ich, as RonJ mentioned. Good luck and let us know your results!! Oh, one other thing I'll mention from past experience. Don't attempt to do too much, too quickly. As an example, there are a lot of supposed remedies floating around out there. I made the mistake of trying a couple of them over a short period of time and ended up stressing my fish so bad they died.

Point of clarification on hyposalinity. 1.009 is a reference used when expressing specific gravity and usually recommended to those attempting the treatment with a swing arm hydrometer. If using a refractometer, the target number should actually be no higher than 16 ppt salinity. 12-14 ppt is recommended to compensate for possible evaporation throughout the day, although 14 ppt is usually sufficient. This parasite is easily beaten and can be permanently eradicated from any system if done correctly.

Cheers
Steve

i noticed some of the bumps gone this morning on my tang. there are a couple left. one on his dorsal and one on his tail fin. i dont have a qt tank and treated directly my main tank with the kick ich. thanks for all the advice! i have been feeding him formula 1 and dried green seaweed which he has been eating nicely. he's very active and other than those 2 salt granule looking spots, seems fine healthwise. hopefully all goes well.

this is just the first wave of the infestation!!! the next one could and most likely will be worse..the trophonts have just fallen off of the fish to the bottom, where they will reproduce for a few days and return ,most likely in greater numbers!!.also, you should consider feeding the tang the Formula 2,with the seaweed being the primary food. here is a good article to read...
