i have a friend and his tank is all spiked out he had it for 5mos and it is cycled added 70 p of live rock and it spiked out would like to know how to fix it thank's:eek:

time and patience

Any time you add a big lump of rock like that it is likely to generate a cycle. If there is a bunch of livestock i would remove them to a quarantee tank till the cycle completes. If he already has some live rock, the cycle will be completed quicker than in the past. If you try and cheat by doing a bunch of water changes, you will just artificially delay and draw out the ultimate cycle.

I guess one other option would be to take out some of the new rock, allow the tank to cycle a small cycle with part of the rock, then add in small quantities of rock over a several week period. This would make the cycle more gentle but draw the process out quite a bit.

no. the cycle will complete itself. part of a cycle is die-off and then repopulation of bacteria. they will increase and decrease in numbers until a balance is achieved.

I agree with Mat. A lot of people, when adding more LR to an established or cycled tank, usually cure it in a seperate tank so as to not disrupt the main tank. The spike, won't kill the rock, but the high levels of ammonia, nitrite or nitrate can cause harm to the tanks inhabitants. That's why most people don't add anything into their tanks until it has cycled or unless they are putting in some really hardy fish to help aid the cycling process...
