OK so I got a replacement lamp today from Hamilton Tech. Its a DE 250W 14K

I bought two pendant light setups on 4-7-06 which included the Icecap ballast, pendant, and the Hamilton lamps.
Well one lamp decided to come apart inside so I called for a warrenty replacement.
It showed up today and I swapped the 2 1/2 month old lamp for this new lamp. I flip the swith and oh my gosh.. the left side of my tank is BLUE and the right side is WHITE.
The new lamp is IDENTICAL to the 2 month old one. Both are 14K.
It ran all day and NO color change. The wife just loves that blue color.

So tell me.. does the color shift from blue to white in only 2 months? It realy sucks cause now I have a tank that looks retarded! (along with the coraline). Here look for yourself.

YA that algae scraper does NOTHING to that coraline, dont worry one day I will reach in there an physicaly scrape it off. I am learning that this plastic stuff scrapes and scratches easily :( with 5 kids in the house.
so do you see the blue and white issue?
I cant afort to run out and buy another lamp just to match the color. More like SHE wont let me.
Is the white side running too hot?
Thanks all for letting me know whats up!

It should just take a few days to ballance out, or they sent you the wrong bulb in the orginal shipment. JMO though

It could also be that on one its been burned with the little glass forming nipple in one direction and the other one is in a different position. Sometimes that effects the color as well. It is alot of difference though. I see what your talking about. They do get whiter as they age.

with it being a DE bulb, there is no "nipple position" as an issue. However, I would make sure that the bulb is seated all the way. once it cools off, pull it out and put it back in all the way. I am more suspicious that it is a burn in issue. That can take as long as a few weeks depending on how long you run your photoperiod. The blue is likely to shift to white. I would call them nonetheless and let them know....that way in 2 wks if it still looks off they will have heard from you already. Otherwise it is a random call 2 wks after the shipment.

Is there such thing as "rip off" Hamilton lamps?

Even when I set it up orriginaly two months ago the color was white like the right side of the tank from day one.

So you recomend that I talk to Hamilton about this?

Do you have the box for the original bulbs stating 14K and can you read it on the bulb 14k it could be a 10k instead time will tell also is the new bulb marked 14k maybe its a 20K ? worth a look :) I know its a pain to get at them somtimes but the only way youll ever know for sure :)
