im using coralife reef salt mixed to 1.024 and my calcium levels are testing at 35 drops when 25 drops is 500ppm on my test scale. is this level harmful?
also i have been dosing carbonate alkalinity steadily for 3 weeks and the levels are just holding at 6. could this be because if the high calcium?

I like high CA levels, but to do it right you must keep the mag levels up. Your mag should be 3 times the level of your CA.

Also what is your pH level?

500 is overly excessive. To balance 500 you would have to be close to 19dkh.

you better check your alk. the last time my calcium climbed that high, my alkalinity was way low and I was dosing with two part b-ionic. if the alk is too low, calcium is unable to be absorbed which could be another reason your calc is high.

I have the same problem... dont mean to thread jack... but I have been reading 520mg/L for a long time. My Alk is 8dKh and will not budge from there. I recently picked up a Mag test kit which revealed 1100. So I am now dosing Magnesium to counter balance the problem all while brown hair algae is raiding my tank!
