yeah, i looked at speakeasy.net and their prices are crazy. 79.95 for 1.5/768 or 49.95 for 1.5/256. For 39.99 with Earthlink/Covad you get 3.0/384k.

I think I am just going to stay with Earthlink and deal with the occassional problem.

I have friends that work at speakeasy and I know it's hard to beat there prices for what you get

speakeasy has that 1.5mbps-in/256out(which is also dedicated upstream) for $49, that includes 4 static IP address(besides that other junk no one uses).

I couldn't find Earthlink/Covad at 39.99 for even 1.5/384k(I couldn't find if thats a dedicated upstream either), where did you find that? is this some promotion that last only a few months?

btw earthlink/covad charges an unheard of $10 an IP address per month(and you don't even get 1 to start for their $39 amonth). You can buy blocks of 8 ip addresses from speakeasy for $15 a month.

Yeah Speakeasy would be the way to go if you ran a mail, web or other type of server. i don't do that any longer so i just need a fast downstream and upstream speed.

Earthlink just upgraded their service. it used to be 1.5/128k and now it's 3.0/384k. they offer either 29.99 for 6 months/free installation then price goes up to 49.99. You can also go 39.99 a month for 12 months and get free installation. I just checked Speakeasy and the speed is 1.5/256 for 49.95. 19.95 for 3 months and also it's a 199.00 installation fee. Eeks! high install fee even though you do get a Mail In Rebate which refunds you the install fee but we all know how those Mail In rebates work. They keep your money interest free for 3 months.

If you know someone over there then maybe you can hook me up with a better price. I wished I could afford the 6.0/768 speed but it's 99.99 over at Speakeasy.

I also have comcast and have has since it was @home I just went to 2wire.com and did a speed check and

Bandwidth = 7846.2 Kbps

Was the result. I agree this will change to a point depending on how many ppl are on your node but I dont see it making enuff of a difference to notice. I sit here in front of the puter more than the tv and havent noticed a big difference at all in speed unless its like reefcentral which is normally pretty clow anyways but thats thier server as I understand it

Your download speed : 3324411 bps, or 3246 kbps.
A 405.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 222642 bps, or 217 kbps.

Per the site you sent me and then

Bandwidth = 7145.4 Kbps
thru 2wire.com why the difference?

but a full T-1 is only 1.5 megabits so half would be 750 or so. Cable is usually about 3.0 megabits here in Seattle. In other places it's up to 10 megabits. Some places also have fiber which is 5 - 15 megabits. Lucky people.

so the half-T1 is at your work or home? :)

Mine is the same... hmmmm....
I think the one I gave you is pretty accurate... Not to contradict the first one... but this speed test is also being used in other websites like dslreports.com

yeah the ones that dslreports.com uses are usually pretty accurate so i tend to use them.

the 2wires.com gave me an accurate speed reading though. At least the first time I ran it. I re-ran it and it came out quite a bit different.

T-1's are nice....the latency and having the same up and download speeds are awesome. Too expensive for me though even though you can get a full T-1 for about 350.00 now. Before DSL was widespread T-1's were in the several thousand dollar range.

I have cable internet

My cable internet service is wonderful, it is so much better than my dial up service, I use to use. We had satellite for about a month, it was lightning fast, when it worked. It worked only about half the time, hence the reason we had it for only a month. They may have worked the bugs out now, this was when satellite internet first became available in our area. Thanks.
