So ive takeing on makeing my own beer.. on top of ducks fish tanks, cat and house....

Wish me luck

Ivve started out the same way i started here... makeing post's in brewing fourms asking questions and reading Ive got some basic equipment and still have much more to get but im on the right path... just thought id share

Im a green thumb dude.. good with bringing dyeing plants back to life... keeping stuff around the house alive and doing my thing... me and cassie got married we moved out... i got my same 30 and a new 75 goind... lifes good cant complain...

working in Nj not to far from home

the brewing thing is cool (i think) i should not drink and i know it... but hell at least i can say i made my own...

Home brewin is awsome! I've been doing it for the past 5 years. Once you get good with it, you'll never want to drink anything else! If ya have any questions, hit me up. What kinda brews you planning on doing? What kinda setup you got?

just a starter set from mid west supply .... 2 buckets all the cleaning stuff.. a glass car boy..

look at stainless kettles 32 quart and a gas burner... and then ill start with a pre set brew kit.. but then when i get good ill switch to all grain... Ill select my own hops and barley and find the right yeast and use my rodi... and its on...

Reinheitsgebot syle

It's funny how it all starts with the buckets and carboys:) When you do start looking into stainless kettles, the cheapest way to go is with the full size kegs. Just cut the top off and you've got a nice brew pot.

All grain in the way to go once you get the concept down...so much more control and soooo much cheaper. I just made 20g of a nice winter chocolate stout for 80$. Good luck to ya and good brewin...it's a blast and tasty to boot!

I am also a home brewer! I made 2 batches of brew with Kits and then it was all grain from there! LOL

After my tank is all up and going, I will concentrate on building a single tier brew stand!

My friends and I just built a new brew station (they're engineers so everything has to be the best). We added beer pumps, cooling line with the powdercoated stand. It looks like this, but it has wheels on the end so we can transport from each of houses :) We had the single tier stand before and it was such a pain to lift everything up (and I'm only 26) over and over, so we did the horizontal style instead.

My son, his best friend, and I are a home brewing group :>)
Totally a blast and it will amaze you how much better home brew tastes even over a good micro. When taste is a priority in lieu of profitability, the whole game changes.

Home brewing is great but like a SW tank it takes alot of time. I do not havetime for both so being I am from the land of Micro brew here in Portland I just get kegs and go from there:D

lol... cool beans a bunch of reefer home brewer's

Im still collecting my bottles... and reading about... still have some stuff to buy but since i just spend about 2 grand between me and my wife Im gonna hold off on some things for now...

Like i said it has to comply with Reinheitsgebot.... but first ill do the starter kits... with the extract.. but once i have it down.... its all grain, ILL select my own hops and barley, then find the right yeast... and pre start that....

Im gonna get a 32quart SS turkey frier set up.... with the little burrner stand... cause i have electric stove.... and ive hurd thats not the best... with an open flame ill be able to maintain 165degree much eazyer

anyone here do all grain.. and care to give a step by step instrution...

it seems that most of the brewing is the same.... the temp and time is the diffrence.... oh oh!!! and speaking of.. i was gonna run this by you guys...

the one video i was watching said something about a nylon filter bag.... for holding your hops when boiling... so i was thinking of the 1 micro nylon bags at the lfs.... its the same thing i could by off the brewing sight right?

Instead of bottling, you should set up a kegging system. Pretty cheap and no waiting for priming sugar to kick in. I can make an all grain batch and i can start drinking it in 2 weeks, compared to 4-6 weeks when bottling.

As far as a step by step for all grain, that could take a bit. Have you done any research on the difference between the two? The kits are Extract and then there is All Grain. Let me know what you know and then I'll write you up a cheap and efficient way to do all grain.

Also, I always did my 5g Extract brews on my electric stove top fine. You can use nylon sacks, but it's hard to get all the flavor from it. I would only use the nylon sacks for your grains and just strain your hops (pour through nylon sack) when transferring into your carboy. More hoppy flavor IMOP.

+1 on the kegging!

I started out bottling with the wife helping and that was all good but still a royal PITA. With kegging, your beer is carbonated alot quicker.

lol, it looks like reefers have a few things in common.

Family dogs (the dachshund being the popular breed)
Reef addictions
A love of a good beer

I've actually been looking into getting into home brewing myself.

I've been told that http://www.thebeeressentials.com/ is a good place to go. Their starter kit is a bit more but instead of two buckets it comes with a bucket and a glass carboy. I'm thinking about going with the two stage deluxe kit ($125) what do you guys think?

The problem I see with that kit is that it does not come with an immersion chiller to cool down the wort. Check out Homebrew Heaven, they are located in Everett. There is also othere homebrew shops further down south.

ya dont need a chiller.... ice in a sink will work altho ive thought about it..

im gonna do the keg bucket with ice water
