Does anyone know of plans for a hood for a bowfront. Doesn't have to be the 16g version (I can modify the plans to suit).

Thanks

Are you going to bend your own wood? I have never done that before. I dont know exactly how you cut long you would cut the wood for the bent piece. I Would think it would be best to take a string, wrap it around the bend of the tank, measure the string so you would have your inner wood length. Once you have that made the rest would be easy.
Sorry I cant be more help here. I just have never done it.
Just didnt want you to think nobody saw your post.

Not sure if I'm going to bend it or what. I was hoping somebody had done it before and could stear me in the right direction.

Ive done many bent forms. It all depends on your woodworking skills and tooling. Laminations are probably the easiest.

Well there is another way, I have been thinking on how to do it. I will be glad to lay out the idea for you, if you want. Here is the rub. It will look like a retangular top but be cut bowfront underneath. I dont think it will flow well with the stand.
It would be easier to make though.

There several ways to "bend wood" You can make a glulam, like Don suggested. You need strips of wood, glue, and if possible a press made out of some dimensional lumber. You can steam bend wood, but that is not optimum. You can also back cut the board with a lot of saw kerfs that allows it to bend. As Don said though...it depends on your skill in woodworking. I'd personally use the glulam method. There are a lot of books and websites that describe any of those methods.

Do you have to use wood? How about making it out of black acrylic, or stainless steel or aluminum? Just an idea, not necessarily a good one :)

That's an idea I suppose. I have plenty of exotic wood and lots of tools though. I think I would prefer wood (pun intended).
