HOT skimmers

What HOT skimmer do you think does the best, that gets all that scum from the tank, less micro bubbles, and quiet? I have a seaclone, and I hate the stupid venturi nozzle, because you have to be perfect to find out how to make scum into the cup, and it makes micro bubbles all over the tank. I need the best HOT skimmer out there. Plz Help me choose one

I am going to try the Grotech HEA-80. I am using the HEA-200 right now and it is a very nice skimmer.

all decent to good skimmers are costly in my opinion. The Grotech's look like they run about 160 - 1500 dollars. I couldn't find a US supplier but then I didn't try that hard. Looks like they are a German skimmer.

red sea prizim pro Great skimmer. easy to use. Skims alot, and has a drain port you can hook up to a gallon jug. 18 blade impeller, adjustable surface skimmer intake cup, no micro bubbles. 159-199$ Rated to 300 gallons, cut that in half and it is good to 150 gallons. I use it on a 75 and it makes a lot of dark dense skim every day. I am really very happy with it. Steve

Sorry here is a link to the US importer http://www.captiveoceans.com/products-grotech.html. Mattseattle, that skimmer looks to be the HEA-150. You can download the Grotech catalog and it has a picture of the HEA-80. I don't think it is all that much more than a Aqua-C Remora.

Wright me, I have tried tried the red sea prizm, and I wasnt satisfied, it had leaks all over it, and I traded it in and it still had a leak in it, although it wasnt a prizm pro, the durability of their regular one did not impress me... I found a via aqua multi skimmer, it has a skimmer, a uv light, mechanical, and bio filtration for about $200. It didnt look like it was very thought out well you know? It had the plastic casing than the acrylic, it just didnt look like a trustworthy skimmer.

I would suggest a sea dragon by etss i havent heard anybody complain about their products yet. I have a reef devil delux and i love it. check out a guy named doug he buys peoples old systems and parts them out for pretty decent prices. ill call him tomarrow if you would like he lives out in unversity place not to far from you. email me if you are interested [email protected]

That site you gave me clownrnd, they dont have any HOT skimmers, they only have those giant $2000 skimmers called bubble king and reactors and all. Gobie, im not out to buy a skimmer right this second, im just doing reaserch on the ones I think that will do good

Btw, gobie, the reef devil deluxe is an insump skimmer? I also seen skimmers that just sit on the ground next to the tank and has a tube that goes in the tank for intake, and a tube that goes out of the tank, are those just in sump skimmers with hoses on the end to get the efficiency as in the sump? I have plenty of room by my tank if I could get those sweet skimmers with the mixing boxes

Sorry about your experince with them. I have 3 prizim regular, 2 prizim pro, and a red sea turbo. I like all of them and have had zero leaks or problems from them. One of the regular is over 3 years in operation with the only replacement being the air hose connecting the air intake to the muffler. Was it used?, or droped? where was it leaking? The next skimmer I buy will be the aqua c. in sump. I ask just because I want to know. Danny bought a pro for his 75 last year and he said it was broken when he got it. So maybe again I have just been extrodinarly lucky. LOL Knocking on wood and biting my tounge, they have always worked great for me. LOL. HTH Steve

actually my reef devil is remote you just put a gate valve and a hose barb on it drill thru sump wall and there you go a stand alone skimmer. its real easy to do and mine cost around 200 new. i bet we could get you a used hot bak pack for cheap i could call for you. i bought a 20gal acrylic sump for less than 50.00. its an option.

I had a 4 foot venturi powered skimmer from lifereef not saying that it wasn't a good skimmer but it was nothing compared to my reef devil.

I agree with the Sea Dragon HOT. I have sold a few of them and have had no bad reports
