HOT skimmers

Waterdog's skimmer looks like it does better than the sea dragon. Looks very rugged. Another skimmer I liked was the excalibur HOT, is that any good?

The nice thing about the Lifereef is the skimmer is not attached to the bracket so it will work in or outside the sump too! Do a search on RC for Lifereef you will find a lot of years worth of happy customers and not a here today, gone tomorrow skimmer story. HTH

All HOT skimmers put bubbles in the tank that I know of; there are tricks to reduce them. When I get a sump going some day I will move my skimmer into it. Some people use the foam on the output pipe, or direct the output through a sponge and carbon; in my case I direct the output behind some rocks to defuse and contain the bubbles.

I use a Deltec MCE600 hang on. I can say that it is a killer skimmer even though it is 446.00 plus shipping it is worth it. I had a remora pro with a mag three before this one and it was not worth the money IMO. It did not perform anywhere close to the Deltec. Plus teh customer service and technical support through Deltec (thank Doug) is exceptional. I would recommend a Deltec without reservations.

I read some forums on it and people say it makes tons of micro bubbles in the tank, some say it makes alot of noise, and some people say it smells like raw sewage when you clean the collection cup.

Your skimmer isn't doing a good job if it doesn't smell like raw sewage.
Check out the CPR Bakpak. I have heard anybody complain about them.
What size tank do you need the skimmer for?

the micro-bubbles were a point of concern on the first day but as soon as I revisited the direction I foi=und my problem. I did not have the diffusion plate inserted all the way. Now I get a few here and there but nothing that I consider problematic.

I had more problems with the Remora. The pump kept falling off and was transfering heat to the water. My tank is 3 degrees cooler since changing skimmers! and I have more room in it! becuase I dont have teh akward prefilter box and pump. The remora did not skim hardly anything. Put another way I got more skimmate from the deltec in 24 hours that I got from the remora in a week. For me this justifies the cost of teh Deltec.

I am going to set up a 240 cube next winter (moving into a new house this summer and the basement is mine!) and I am getting a Deltec AP702 for the tank. I estimate with a 240 gallon tank and a 150 gallon sump I will have about a total of 300-325 gallons of system water so this is the right skimmer for the job. The skimmer plus the OM eight way are a must for me!

the pic of teh tank was taken before I filled it up. the stand was custom made by a friend and is solid oak. deminsions are 22-22-24
