what i have is a samsung S730 w/ SHD lens, 7.2 mega pixels, iso 1000. is there any way to get the bright clear pics that i see you guys are getting of your corals and fish. how do you do it. this is a digatel camera, and there are more setting than i know what to do with. but i am not a photographer eather. anyone please help or at least point me in the right direction. thank you.

I'm not familiar with that camera but google search and see if you can manual set the white ballance. Most of the ganaric settings aren't set up for the lighting of our fish tanks. I also wouldnt reccomend using the flash because that completly dulls out your colors. And as mentioned, turn that ISO down to 100 and no more than 400. The lower the ISO the clearer the photos are going to be.

Manual settings will probably work out best for you. As Tyler said, research your camera to see if you can customize your white balance. Without that ability, it's very difficult for our digital cameras to figure out our reef lighting. If your camera has Macro Mode, you'll also want to learn how to use that.

I switched iso down to 100 for coral pics

well been doing som research on this thing, and this is what i came up with. these the first two are taken with and with out macro at ISO 100, auto white balance and flash. lights where off in tank. last two pics are in manual mode the first pic has macro, white balance is "flouresnt high", tank lights on and flash. second has all same but no macro. that macro setting is awsome:D. my white balance adjusts from "auto, daylight, cloudy, flourescent H, flourescent L, tungsten and custom set. when i take pics without flash you can barly see the pics " last pic".

You need to learn how to use White Balance Custom set and customize white balance to your tank lighting.

As for no flash, what is your shutter speed and aperture setting? You can also bump up your ISO, but no higher than 400. This will allow you to take pics in lower light. If you're able, slow down shutter speed, but not too slow, without a tripod... and open the aperture up more. This will allow more light to hit the sensor.

that was the problem with the flash. first pic is at F 2.8 and 1/45
. second is F 2.8 with 1/45. it was at like 1/250 or somthing. no flash on these.

Looking good Cross. I love threads like this, not only do I get to watch people learn but it really helps me think about the subject and ways to improve myself!
