Due to the power outage, 99% of my live stocks in my 130gl tank were dead and the power was back on around 7 pm tonight. The water smell bad because of the dead animals. I wonder how much water I need to change and how long I should wait to put live stocks back in?

Thanks
KC

The larger the water changes, the sooner your tank parameters will get back to normal for you. Large water changes sometimes aren't that practical... so several smaller changes can work also.

Sorry to hear about your losses, hope things start getting back to normal soon for you.

i would just start over...... what do you have thats still alive. your gonna get another cylce.

I agree with doing a large water change and then letting things settle and in a week or so do another midsized waterchange, then see how the tank looks. I imagine you will have some sort of cycle and adding anything new til after that would be the best.

I sure an sorry about what has happened in the NW.

Hello from the other coast.First let me say KC I feel your pain brother,2 yrs ago we were in the middle of hurricane season and they made us leave our house,I had a 120 with 90 gallon sump/fug. full reef with about 14 fish, shrimp, hermits, snails etc etc, they told us we could be back as soon as 1 day,I have a cop freind that had to stay that was checking on my tank, well the wind was bad my bubby got busy,we lost power and 2 days later I had 200 gallons of death,I have one monti frag and some green trumpets from that tank that is all that survived,Imagine that then imagine a grown man crying, that would be me.

I think I will take everything out of the tank and get all the dead fishes out. I will do a large water change, may be 80% then 30% in couple weeks.

Thanks for all the replies again
KC

Sounds like a plan:
1) Remove dead fish
2) Add lots of carbon in the sump and air Any Amquel or novaqua or anything to lower ammonia while you
3) Get the water for changing ready
:)
