I'd like to frag my zoanthids, and spread them around the tank a bit more.
There is no more room for them to grow on the current rock. How do I go about removing a few of them without damage? The rock is too solid to break into pieces. I had the rock out of the water for a few moments earlier today, and tried pulling on one of them, but it did not come loose easily, and I was worried that I'd kill it if I tried any harder.

Well for one, safety glasses and gloves. You don't want to pull them they will squirt nasty stuff out and it could be bad.

wear goggles and glove, try placing the rock on a hard surface, and use a hammer and chisel/screwdriver to break the rock apart.

I prefer to put rubble next to my corals and just let then grow onto it then cup them loose after a few polyps grow onto the rubble. After all reefing is about patience.
