How to make Durso style intake tubes?

I'm setting up a 172 ga Oceanic glass reef tank / 2 inlets that are currently an older style straight tubes. I've seen some of the newer Oceanic tanks with Durso style and additional inlet holes in the overflow box.

I want to make or purchase Durso style tubes in quiet the sound?

Will I need to add additional holes about 1/2 way down to the overflow box to supplement the top? Maybe change the rake style vents to a screen at the top?

I'm picking up the tank tomorrow, I think the bulkheads are 1-1/2" metal.
Should I replace these with 1 1/2" PVC. What style of bulkhead is needed for Durso tubes? Double threaded bulkhead, etc.

Not sure Doug...I've never used any Durso stand pipes before, but I've seen on here somewhere where people made their own, but couldn't say exactly where for sure.
