How to tell difference in Blue Hornets - African vs real one

I know one difference is the African Blue Hornets are a lot cheaper. But if you want the real Blue Hornet (more expensive), how do you tell them apart? Who has them online or private party?

To my knowledge there isn't a "True" Blue Hornet zoa. They are just considered as the African Blue Hornets and all of their color configurations are the same.

Now if you meant "True" Purple Hornets, then that's a different story.

Thanks for the reply. From the messages I read, when they talk about price per head, the African Blue Hornets are less than the real Blue Hornets. This is confusing...

I did a search on African Blue Hornets and found other forums where they were sharing what people paid for them. Those who replied made it sound like the African variety is less expensive.

The African Blues aren't the ones that are really expensive, and IMO, are very similar to AOIs, if not the same thing. It's the Purple Hornets that caused such a stir and became so expensive overnight.

I see what you're talking about now. From what I've found the so called "True" Blue Hornets are like a morph or cousin to the purple hornets. Same color configuration as the PH but blue. So 2 distinct attributes separating TRUE BH from ABH are smaller ring around the mouth and alternating blue and yellow skirt.

is it just me or do the African Blue Hornets look a lot like the Steel Blues we see around here as well?? Sometimes I want to just name my zoas along the line of "well it looks like XXX, who cares what they are, they're pretty"...

Needless to say, you might get some steel blues for even cheaper

I agree. IMO the ones that are called blue hornets were named that to generate some of the hype that the purple hornets have. Money.

I've had both and if you could keep the african blues alive, I'd rather have them.

you HAD both finn?does that mean you dont have it anymore?blue hornet i think look like this,same as ph but its blue and it has a white color mouth inside the circle...heres a picture that i found..

Yes I bought some that were sold as blue hornets and I bought some that were purple hornets.
The ones sold as blue hornets melted just as the african blue/blue steel.

Ive heard that the africans need very high lighting and a lot of flow.

i got couple of polyps from danno(african blue hornets)...they were growing crazy in my nano b4 but when i move it to my 55gal 1 by 1 it started to melt..im down to 3 polyps and up to know its still hanging and seem doing fine but not looking pretty as it went really tiny polyps...and yes to the high light and lots flow..
