Ok, So I decided to totally reaquascape my tank. This involved taking out 100 lbs of live rock and in the process I discovered the sickest thing I have ever seen. Its a large eunice worm, related to brissle worms. I dont want to keep him, even though he is harmless. I just cant imagine putting my hands in the tank knowing he is in there. So what do I do with him? Here is his picture. My mom has named him Herman, in hopes that I cant dispose of him if hehas a name. Im thinking of perserving him and giving him to my university, if they want him.

Any suggestions?

LOL dont blame you for not wanting to touch it.

The one I had I was able to get and it was about 8" long.
I ended up taking the rock out it was in and.. well got rid of him.

Ewwwww I actually have one just like that! No kidding! *he* only sticks his head out though and I have lots of other great stuff growing on *his* rock.

Good luck whatever you do.
sincerely,

where there's one; there's????

Just teasin ya

Seriously I cannot stand worms. After all the years and various tanks, I only saw one little worm once. I was always amazed at that.

Well, I think I convinced my sister to take him to school with her. Her animal bio professor would really like him. They will preserve him and use him for their annelid collection.

Well, I put all the rock back and only found two bristle worms in there, no other eunice worms either. Thats a relief. But I am alarmed at the lack of invertebrate life in my tank. I would imagine that Herman had a lot to do with it.

i am glad you put a name with this worm...i just discovered one last night...i was looking at some corals with a flashlight and noticed this HUGE worm!!!! i am not sure how long it is...it was at least 8"..that was all that was hanging out of the rock
