I agree. This is really an amazing debacle on a scale not seen in the states in decades. I read the famed aquarium lost most of their fish but the leafy and weedy seadragons, large birds, and other cool animals survived and are being removed. They are going to solicit donations to rebuild. There are so many charities needing help. The SPCA is looking for supplies to shelter pets including aquariums and birdcages in addition to dog and cat supplies of every possible type. Habitat for Humanity will be another good one to help out later when they can come in, their homes are really sturdy (apparently all the extra volunteers means several times more nails than normally used and in hurricane Andrew their houses were proven much stronger). United Way, homeless shelters, food banks, all kinds of places will need help. The list goes on and on, and we can all pour through our closets for clothes, toys, baby supplies, craft kits, board games etc we can take to the local shelters around the country. I think I will try and move one of my fish tanks to whatever shelter they put here for the kids to look at if it's allowed.
I grew up far from this zone in Minnesota. We had bad disasters but they cut a little strip for the most part, then the neighbors come help dig you out and put you back on your feet. This mass disaster, I don't even know where to start.
