Im looking for a return pump for my 125 g with a 60 g sump. I need an external one. This is my first big tank and I need help with ideas on a model or brand of pump. Totally new to this external stuff. Thanks.

I use a Sequence pressure rated pump, It is rather large but as far as pumping it is awesome, supplied my chiller also Have room to add a feed for something else also. The down sied, these aren't quite as submersible & they do add heat, not like high flow pumps. Dolphin doesn't seem to offer a pressure rated pump unless you want to neck down one of there high flow pumps instead of using an 1 1/2" suction or a 2" suction, to me that isn't worth it. I have been considering using two Eheim's, one external & one for the chiller, to see how much quieter I can get them & cooler for the tank, not sure how that will work out but I thing it may be worth a try. I sure wish Sequence & Dolphin would both make a smaller pressure rated pump, what they have now just doesn't fit the application for IN ROOM type set-ups, If your going garage then the Sequence UNO series is the way to go, 1" in & 3/4" out with all the head you will ever need & a very reasonable cost to operate comparing to two Eheim's.

Why pressure rated for a return pump? The older amp masters a nearly silent. I'm not sure about the new ones but I'll be getting one shortly.

would depend on the distance & height but typical sumps & stands it wouldn't need to be pressure rated but you still have a huge hole to drill in the sump for the intake. Also not sure if working a high flow pump under a pressure wouldn't add some unnecessary heat, not like a cl where there basically isn't any head to over come. I guess if you had them as returns & I've seen them it shouldn't be a problem. I require a higher flow in my tank because of the coast to coast, when I clean the tank I crank up the flow really high to suck up everything to the sump & sock fast before it all has time to settle.

Thanks for the info guys. I already have a hole drilled into the sump. gotta make sure nothing leaks.

I've heard great things about amp master and Sequence pumps as well. They would be my first 2 choices if ever going external :)

I have a new Dolphin/amp master 2100 pump I will sell you cheaper than you can get it anywhere/ PM me if you want info.
